YESS Academy & SEL
At YESS Academy, we believe in empowering youth with the tools they need to thrive mentally, emotionally, and socially. Our SEL program for youth focuses on building essential skills such as self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and relationship building. These skills not only enhance academic performance but also equip students with healthy coping mechanisms to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), students who participate in evidence-based SEL programs demonstrate improved social and emotional skills, attitudes, and behaviors. They also experience better academic performance and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as substance abuse and violence.
One key aspect of YESS Academy's SEL program (YESS Academy Classroom) is teaching youth how to recognize and manage their emotions effectively. By cultivating self-awareness and self-regulation skills, students learn to identify early signs of mental distress and implement strategies to cope with difficult emotions in healthy ways. These may include mindfulness techniques, deep breathing exercises, journaling, or seeking support from trusted adults or peers.
